White marble is a building material first used and popularizedby the ancient Greeks. Marble has been quarried and used to buildstructures both artful and useful, from buildings to sculptures toheadstones. White marble is a popular stone, but there are a numberof different varieties of white marble.
Pighes White is quarried in Greece, where it has been used forhundreds of years. This stone is taken from an area near thevillage of Piges, hence the name. Pighes white comes in a varietyof shades and hues, with the highest quality being nearly purewhite and pale. As the quality of the marble descends, it becomesshades of off white or gray and dark veins appear.
White of Volakas
